National Voters’ Day

The Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) at NIIT University successfully hosted an inspiring and engaging series of events on January 25, 2025, to commemorate National Voters’ Day. The event aimed to foster awareness, encourage active participation in the democratic process, and celebrate the power of every vote.

The evening commenced with a dynamic inter-house debate competition in collaboration with the Debating and Elocution Society, DebsocNU. Orange House, Green House, and White House competed with thought-provoking arguments on the motion: “This House believes that the state in a democracy should be allowed to implement universal surveillance to combat crime.” Each team, comprising two speakers, passionately presented their perspectives while engaging in spirited interjections. A panel of esteemed faculty members judged the competition, evaluating clarity, argument strength, and rebuttal skills. The debate not only showcased intellectual rigor but also emphasized the importance of informed decision-making in a democracy. Orange House emerged as the winner of the competition.

Additionally, Shaurya Mehta, Batch of 2023, Btech CSE, from White House was recognized as the overall Best Interjector. Both participants from Orange House and the Best Interjector were awarded cash prizes for their outstanding performance.

Following the debate, students and faculty gathered to take the National Voters’ Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to democratic principles and responsible voting. This underscored the significance of civic duty in shaping the nation’s future.

The event concluded with a special screening of Amaran, a film that beautifully encapsulates the essence of civic responsibility and the profound impact of individual voices in a democracy. The thought-provoking narrative left the audience reflecting on the power of participation and the importance of every vote.
