Ode to Life

Oh dear friend, with heavy heart I write,

A poem that may bring tears to your eyes tonight,

For though the world is filled with beauty and light,

It's also full of pain and sorrow, and endless fight.

Think of the child, so innocent and pure,

Born into a world so full of war,

Where bombs rain down, and death is sure,

And hope is nothing but a distant lure.

Or think of the lover, torn apart by fate,

Forced to say goodbye, and left to wait,

For a love that may never again abate,

And a heart that may forever ache.

And what of the elder, once so strong and wise,

Reduced to nothing by age and time's demise,

Forgotten by a world that only prizes,

The young and strong, who wear their own disguises.

So if these words have brought a tear,

Know that you're not alone, my dear,

For though life can be so very clear,

It's also full of pain and fear.

But let us not forget the love that binds,

The hope that grows, the joy that finds,

A way to heal the wounded minds,

And lift the heavy burdens that we find.

For though this world may bring us low,

We have each other, and the love we know,

And that is something that will always grow,

And make our tears, a little less so.
