National Education Policy 2020

National Education Policy 2020 aims to transform the Indian education system using various reforms. This is the first education policy of the 21st Century. It replaces the 34-year-old NPE (National Policy on Education), 1986.

Dr. K. Kasturirangan, former ISRO chairman and the current chairman of NIIT University, is the architect and leader behind the creation of the new policy.

NEP 2020 will bring in many significant changes and listed below are some of the highlights.

  • Multiple Entry/Exit allowed in Higher Education with appropriate certification.
  • A new 5+3+3+4 curriculum which includes 12 years of Schooling with 3 years of Pre-Schooling.
  • 6% of GDP will now be allocated to Education.
  • Vocational Training and Internships from Class 6 onwards.
  • Reduction of the divide between streams.

NEP brings about a holistic approach to learning that suits the needs of the 21st century. It reduces the current limitations and empowers each student to be unique. A bright future lays ahead for India and this is the first step in the many that will follow.
