Anti-Ragging Week

Held from August 12 to August 18, 2023, NIIT University’s Anti-Ragging Week was a comprehensive initiative designed to increase awareness about the significance of ending ragging and creating a safe and welcoming campus community. The week-long program was carefully planned to include a variety of activities that involved students in meaningful discussions and creative expression in addition to imparting knowledge.

An inspiring opening ceremony took place in the university auditorium to kick off the Opening Ceremony and Pledge Against Anti-Ragging event. The assembly was addressed by Chief Warden Mr. Narayan Kumar and Dean of Student Affairs Maj. Gen. A. K Singh, who emphasized the university’s dedication to cultivating a culture of respect and unity. A strong proclamation against ragging was made at the end of the event by university captain Abhijeet Singh, iMBA Batch 2020–24, guaranteeing a unified front against this threat.

The auditorium screened a brief documentary on anti-ragging the following day. This NU-Cinesta-produced documentary offered a thorough understanding of the many facets of ragging, its effects, and the significance of its elimination. The screening made viewers aware of the serious consequences of ragging on both the victims and the entire university community.

Day 3 was dedicated to creative expressions with an artistic twist. The Design Club organized a logo design competition, encouraging participants to illustrate the theme of anti-ragging through visual imagery. Simultaneously, the NSS Club conducted a sketch competition and slogan-writing activity. These events enabled students to channel their creativity to advocate against ragging and contribute to the university’s awareness efforts.

The debating society, DEBSOC, led discussions in groups on particular subjects pertaining to the prevention of ragging on August 17, 2023. Peer mentoring, prevention tactics, and creating a positive campus culture were among the important topics that were discussed. Through these talks, students were able to share ideas, have thought-provoking discussions, and work together to create a campus free of ragging.

The week came to an end with a lavish celebration that included musical performances by Verismo and poetry readings by Kavishala, the NU poetry society. The power of the student body, togetherness, and artistic expression were all honored in these performances. Certificates acknowledging the attendees’ active participation in the week’s events were also distributed during the event.

NIIT University’s Anti-Ragging Week was very important because it showed the university’s steadfast dedication to providing a secure and welcoming environment for its students. With a well-planned fusion of educational lectures, creative displays, panel discussions, and cultural activities, the university presented its all-encompassing strategy for ending bullying. This strategy supports the three pillars of NIIT University: learning, respect, and compassion. It also helps to create a campus environment that promotes personal development and guarantees everyone’s safety and wellbeing.

By the end of the week, the university community’s combined efforts were clearly visible in the increased awareness and unwavering commitment to stop ragging. At NIIT University, the Anti-Ragging Day/Week not only raised awareness of the harmful effects of ragging but also honored the power of cooperation, compassion, and civic duty in encouraging an inclusive and fearless campus community.
