CiberNUtica Session

CiberNUtica, the Cybersecurity Club of NIIT University, organised a practical server room visit session on April 8, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM, led by Prof. Surender Singh. The session was held in the university’s server room and attended by approximately 25 to 30 students. The objective of the session was to provide participants with direct exposure to real-world network infrastructure beyond the scope of classroom instruction. During the visit, students examined the roles and configurations of routers and switches, observing how these devices manage and direct data flow across the university’s network. Participants also studied the functioning of the NAS (Network Attached Storage) server, gaining an understanding of how institutional data is stored, accessed, and managed in a centralised environment. A focused explanation of firewall mechanisms was provided, covering how firewalls monitor and filter network traffic to protect against unauthorised access and potential cyber threats. The students also received an overview of the university’s complete network architecture, including the interconnection of servers, storage systems, routers, and switches, and how these components are maintained to ensure continuous and efficient operation. The session was coordinated by Arjun R Kamath, BTech Batch 2024 and conducted under the academic supervision of Mr Surender Singh. By engaging directly with live infrastructure, participants were able to correlate theoretical knowledge with practical application, reinforcing their understanding of cybersecurity and network management concepts. The session was reported to have been well-received, with active participation throughout the session
